Sermon 24 – IN TWO MINDS

In Genesis chapter 3, Eve succumbed to the temptation to elevate her position above what God allocated to her. Once she took the carrot she gained the knowledge that she was naked, then in fear, hid from God, then lied about why, then blamed the serpent, whilst at the same time Adam blamed God for giving him the woman, and then blamed the woman for misleading him.

The pattern of sin was set from the beginning,

Sermon 22 – The FIG LEAF COVER-UP

And the eyes of them both were opened and they sowed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons … Genesis 3:7

Human nature works out how to avoid pain and how to make itself feel good. When it feels put down it works out from a very early age how to counteract the bad feeling and replace it by doing something that makes it feel good again. For example, Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 16 – FEAR FEEDS on PRIDE

Fear is a scary thing. Everyone suffers it. It’s an automatic human trait. It paints a picture in our mind that can drive us to sickness and even death. It can confront us when we’re bullied, intimidated, face a loss or just being questioned.

But, you can actually only feel fear when you’re Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 15 – NO CORRECTION, NO HEAVEN

For whom the Lord loves He corrects … Hebrews 12:6

How do you feel when you’re corrected?

No one likes correction; it hurts our pride, and it stirs up our fears. For some reason correction scares people because they feel put down. Most people feel stupid, silly, embarrassed, useless, that you don’t like them, dumb, a failure, or should have known better. The correction comes as a shock to our pride; we think we are good. To most people, correction is pain; therefore they generally deduce that Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 14 – HUMILITY is not in you

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble, 1 Peter 5:5

Most people think humility is being nice, polite and not being proud about yourself, but humility is not a human trait, it’s a Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 10 – It’s a CONTRADICTION

If a child says to their father “I appreciate what you’ve done for me”, and then chooses to truant from school, speaks rudely to their mother, or practices sexual promiscuity behind the parent’s back, that’s a contradiction. How can you say you appreciate the parent and at the same time disrespect and defame the parent’s principles or your father’s wife?

If a friend says to you Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 5 – THE BLINDNESS OF DISRESPECT

The cause of spiritual blindness is pride, and the irony is, pride doesn’t think it’s proud nor blind, it thinks you are.

Our society today runs on the fuel of “be your own person; don’t let anyone tell you what to do.” A saved Christian already knows they have that right; but an unsaved Christian demands it as their right. It’s rationalised as “surely I have the right to figure it out for myself.” The difference between an unsaved Christian and a saved Christian is Read the rest of this entry »

Sermon 2 – “Don’t call me stupid”

SERMON 2. Don’t call me STUPID!
How do you react when someone calls you ‘stupid’? Most people bite back. In Matthew 5:22, Jesus challenges people who call others ‘stupid’ to think before they accuse, because the act equates to killing the person’s character and earns hell punishment. Therefore, the person who brands others as ‘stupid’ is actually passing judgment on themselves because it’s the height of hardness to have experienced the pain of being called ‘stupid’ and then to turn on others with the same hurtful brand. Jesus doesn’t judge them; they’ve judged themselves. Everyone has said in their heart, Read the rest of this entry »
